SCENE 01 / LOOK DEVELOPMENT

Look Development

Creative visual style development and LUT creation for distinctive cinematic aesthetics that define your production's unique identity.

Scroll

Look development sets a production's visual style and color before principal photography starts. It tests cameras, lenses, lighting, and LUTs together. From that work, it creates reference images and tech specs that steer the whole production toward one unified look.

We support look development by setting up camera tests, LUT creation, and joint work between your cinematographer and colorist. Our team arranges test space and tech resources for the job. That way your visual look is defined, logged, and ready to guide steady image capture from day one.

      On Location

Pre-production look development and LUT design in France

Look development works best when it starts before the camera rolls. We run pre-production tests with cinematographers in Paris, Lyon, and on the Côte d'Azur to set a production's look before principal photography. Sessions cover camera and lens review across ARRI, RED, and Sony systems, plus lighting tests under set conditions. We also frame references on the real locations — whether that is a Normandy farmhouse, a Strasbourg cobbled square, or a Bordeaux vineyard at golden hour.

Our colorists at partner houses such as Mikros and Mac Guff turn director and DP intent into working LUTs. These cover tracking LUTs for set use, dailies LUTs for edit review, and full look pipelines logged for the later grading stage. Every LUT is built within an ACES or Resolve Color Managed workflow, so creative intent stays intact. It carries through from camera origination and ARRIRAW or R3D processing into the final DCI-P3 theatrical or Rec.709 broadcast master. Productions reach the grade with a locked look, which saves days of trial and error in the finishing suite.

      FAQ

      Frequently Asked Questions

When should we start look development?

Ideally during pre-production. Early look development lets you use tracking LUTs on set, keep dailies steady, and line up all departments on the visual direction. However, we can also build looks during post-production if needed.

What do you need to create a look?

We work best with sample footage from your camera tests or early production. Visual references such as films, photographs, and artwork help too, along with mood boards and a chat about your creative goals. The more we know about your story and vision, the better we can serve your project.

How do LUTs work in production?

We create tracking LUTs that apply to camera feeds and dailies, so everyone on set sees a preview of the intended look. These tech LUTs are tuned for different display types and viewing conditions. They also keep the full dynamic range in your RAW footage.

Can you match a specific film or reference look?

We can study and recreate the visual qualities of references, though we build our own take rather than exact copies. Our goal is to learn what draws you to a reference and craft a distinctive look that serves your own story and footage.

Productions in France that need this often pair it with Color Correction Services, Color Grading Services, and Online Conform & QC Services for full coverage. Most projects also draw on Narrative & Documentary Editing and Foley Recording Services.
