SCENE 01 / UNDERWATER CAMERA OPERATORS

Underwater Filming Services

Certified underwater cinematography for marine, pool, and aquatic productions across France.

Scroll

Underwater camera operators pair pro diving skill with cinema camera craft. They capture footage beneath the surface. These pros know underwater lighting, buoyancy, current water, and the tricky optics of shooting through water. That know-how gives clear, striking shots below the surface.

We connect you with certified underwater camera pros. They bring both diving and camera skill. Our team sets up waterproof housing, lighting, safety divers, and the logistics around them. Your underwater scenes are then shot safely and to a high visual standard.

Certified underwater camera operators across French waters

Our underwater camera teams suit each French water setting. That spans the clear blue of the Calanques, the marine reserves around Port-Cros, the calm tanks of Studios de Marseille, and the Mediterranean depths off the Côte d'Azur. Operators hold CMAS 3-star, PADI Divemaster, or hyperbarie classe IB commercial qualifications. French insurers and the Code du Travail need that credential set for paid film work below the surface. Safety divers, surface marshals, and dive supervisors arrive as one crew. Risk checks and dive plans are filed before talent or crew enter the water.

Our housing stock covers Hydroflex, Gates, and SeaCam systems for ARRI Alexa Mini LF, RED Komodo, Sony Venice 2, and Sony FX6. We source these through TSF, Panavision Alga, and pro marine rentals on the Riviera. Underwater HMI and waterproof LED packages from Kessil and SeaLife add ambient fill in low-vis water on the Atlantic coast and in the Sormiou inlets. We also arrange boat charter, RIB safety cover, and Affaires Maritimes permits for shoots in the Parc National des Calanques. So your director can focus on what's framed inside the dome port.

FAQ

Professional Underwater Operations

What certifications do your underwater operators hold?

Our underwater camera operators hold pro PADI, CMAS, or equal certifications. These match the filming depths and water. Many also hold pro underwater shooting tickets. For complex shoots, they carry HSE or equal commercial diving qualifications.

What camera systems can you use underwater?

We run underwater housings for ARRI Alexa Mini, RED Komodo/V-Raptor, Sony Venice/FX6, and Blackmagic cameras. The right housing depends on your camera package, the features you need, and the depth. We also use dedicated underwater cinema cameras when the shot calls for them.

Can you film with actors underwater?

Yes. We work with trained water safety leads and coach actors for underwater work. Non-diving actors can be filmed in controlled shallow water with safety divers on hand. Complex underwater stunts call for careful planning and a full safety plan.

What locations in France are suitable for underwater filming?

France offers many underwater filming sites: the Côte d'Azur coast (clear water, marine life), the Atlantic coast (rougher seas), lakes and rivers (freshwater settings), plus many studio tanks and pools for calm, controlled shoots.

How do you handle underwater lighting?

We use dedicated underwater LED and HMI lights in waterproof housings. For pool and tank work, above-water lighting can reach the subject well. Deep or murky water needs its own underwater lighting package, which we plan before the shoot.

What are the safety requirements for underwater filming?

All underwater work needs risk checks, dive plans, certified safety divers, surface support, and emergency rules. We follow French diving rules and film industry safety standards. Complex sequences may call for hyperbaric chamber standby.

Productions in France that need this often pair it with Steadicam & Gimbal Operators, Director of Photography Services, and Multi-Camera Shoots for full coverage. Most projects also draw on Underwater Lighting and Camera & Cinematography.
