SCENE 01 / UNDERWATER LIGHTING

Underwater Lighting

Submersible lighting for your French underwater production.

Scroll

Underwater lighting needs waterproof fixtures and special methods to light subjects below the surface. Water absorbs and scatters light far more than air does. That makes good lighting vital for color accuracy, visibility, and the look of your footage across many depths and conditions.

We source pro underwater lighting systems rated for your shooting depth and setting. Our team brings waterproof fixtures, battery systems, and skilled underwater gaffers, so your underwater scenes are well lit and stay true to your production's overall look.

On Location

Submersible cinema lighting across France

Light behaves in odd ways below ten metres. Red wavelengths drop off, particles scatter the beam, and a soft daylight key from the surface won't reach where your talent is working. Our underwater gaffers build packages that hold their colour at any depth the Mediterranean throws at you. That ranges from the warm, fifteen-metre visibility of the Calanques de Cassis and Cap d'Ail, through the cooler greens of the Atlantic shelf out of Brest, down into the studio pools at Marseille and the TSF Aubervilliers tank near Paris.

We deploy Hydroflex SeaPar HMI heads, BeBob and Nila LED Ambians, K5600 Joker submersibles, and Hive Wasp units rated to 100m. All run on daylight balance with the magenta correction that fights the cyan shift water imposes. Our underwater electricians hold INPP commercial certification and run dive-safe DC power, weighted floor stands, and surface tenders. That keeps cinema-grade exposure locked across feature shoots, fashion films, brand campaigns for diving and beauty clients, and Arte science documentaries.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

What underwater lighting options do you offer?

We provide LED and HMI submersible lights rated for many depths. LED units run cool and use little power, while HMI gives strong daylight-balanced output for larger scenes.

How deep can you light underwater?

Our gear is rated for many depths, with many units going to 100m or more. The depth you need depends on your shoot, and we pick the right gear to match.

Do you provide dive-qualified lighting technicians?

Yes, our underwater lighting technicians are qualified divers who know both the lighting craft and dive safety. They run lights underwater while keeping to proper dive protocols.

What about color temperature underwater?

Water absorbs red light quickly as depth grows. We use daylight-balanced lights and can add filters to make up for it. Getting color right on set is far easier than fixing it later in post.

Can you light large underwater areas?

Yes, we can deploy many units for large-scale underwater lighting setups. This calls for careful planning around power, placement, and safety, but it lets us light dramatic underwater scenes.

What French waters do you work in?

We work across France, where the southern coast offers clear, warm water and the Atlantic brings more dramatic conditions. We can also shoot in controlled settings like pools and tanks when your scene calls for it.

Productions in France that need this often pair it with Underwater Filming, Volumetric Capture, and High Speed Filming for full coverage. Most projects also draw on Camera & Cinematography and Underwater Camera Operators.
